Interview & Song after the jump.
Interview: Where does the Young Dresta stage name come from?
Young Dresta: I’ve been Young Dresta before the music ever came anywhere near my career plans. The game of life and everything I had to do to get here gave me that name… Being a real Hustler before it was fashionable and a trend or catch phrase is what gave me that name. Y-Dresta is short for Young Dresta.
Interview: Cool. How did you get your start in music?
Young Dresta: I used to get so blitz off grapes and hash oil in San Diego. I’d just play around and freestyle over whatever song we were listening to throughout the city. Or if I felt someone didn’t ride a beat properly, I’d bust over it off top. Then after a while it got a little more serious and word started getting out that Young Dresta was the business when it came to free styling. I never took it serious though, it was just something to kill time between transactions to me. Then my cousin Ruthless who at the time was the rapper in the Treyz needed a ride to the studio one day so I took him. We get there, and meet a few folks, introduce ourselves and one of the dudes was like “You Young Dresta? I heard about you!” he asked me to hop on the track and it was a wrap from there! After that you couldn’t keep me out the studio!
Interview: Awesome. Thus far, what would you say has been your biggest break in the industry?
Young Dresta: Probably this year, between all the singles I’ve independently released since January on ITunes and the way the fans have been supporting in my artistry from here to over seas! The Magazines are showing love. It’s just all coming together wonderfully.
Interview: Great! How would you describe your sound to our readers?
Young Dresta: Unlike the rest of them. I’m a true artist painting pictures, Picasso’s. I just like to put my life, passion and soul into my songs but also have as much fun as possible in the process. I don’t follow any trends or what’s hot for the sole purpose of doing so. I don’t wanna be or sound like any one but myself.
Interview: What would you say is your best musical asset?
Young Dresta: My depth, experience, passion and originality. I hold a true love for the music itself.
Interview: Cool. Which part of your game do you think needs more work?
Young Dresta: Promotion. Get me a Lil Wayne budget and I’ll have niggas Grand mamas & unborn babies rocking with me!
Interview: Why did you take a year hiatus from music?
Young Dresta: I was going through the biggest war of my life with my self. I was torn between what I knew how to do, and what I knew I needed to do. Spiritually I was dead and needed to be taught from the ground up. Praise Jah & thank you for the love & Life you’ve giving me. I’m ready to live now more then ever!
Interview: That’s great. How did you appear in Xplosive Magazine?
Young Dresta: They were doin the City to City Issue in Sacramento so they called me up and said they needed me in it. You can’t run a Sacramento issue without Young Dresta! That’s like going to a club that doesn’t serve alcohol. It doesn’t work!
Interview: Cool. Tell us about the current single.
Young Dresta: ”Adios” is the newest single! Its crazy music, fun track, just drop the top on the whip and turn it up and ride through the city music. My boy HC the Chemist is on the beat who does a lot of production for Bone Thugs & Mo Thugs came through with a clapper for me and I just approached the plate and knocked it home. It’s my top seller on ITunes right now already so if you ain’t got it yet, make sure you get it. The homie Bizarre from D-12 just hopped on the remix for that so I’ll be releasing that real soon too. “The Art of Pain” is another one in high demand right now on ITunes!
Interview: Awesome! You’ve appeared on over 60 mixtapes this year alone. What do you think of the mixtape game?
Young Dresta: I like it and think it’s a good look. This is the first year I really dipped into it but they’ve been showing nothing but Love so I’m riding with it.
Interview: Cool. What’s next up for Young Dresta?
Young Dresta: I’m working on my new EP right now called “Til Death Do Us Part”. That’s just crazy. Hands down it’s my masterpiece. I’ll go a little more in depth on that with the next interview. I’ll be in a gang of more magazines, videos, shows & traveling. I’m taking care of the family, staying humble and living life.
Interview: Nice. Do you have any last words before I let you go?
Young Dresta: To my fans, I Love y’all to death, stay riding with me, you’re are a large piece of my inspiration and what keeps me going, Keep me in your prayers and I promise to do the same. Stay connected wit me on www.Y-Dresta.com , Twitter and MySpace & for Booking or Collabs Ydresta@yahoo.com. Much love to my heavenly father Jehovah!!!
